Far From a Zero
You know, its funny how survival horror game franchises always seem to have a game title with "zero" in it? Resident Evil 0, now Silent Hill Zero... I bet Siren is next lol. Anyway, I digress. This soundtrack is amazing! Its been a hard contest thus far for most favored of all SH soundtracks, but this newest installment just came and snatched the crown with ease!
This is a clear sign of growth for Akira Yamaoka. He has taken all his shortcomings from the previous games' soundtracks (like the random annoying and surprising noises that go on for minutes) and actually focused on improving the music and making it as eerie as possible without compromising that which makes it enjoyable to listen to. Also, the addition of a new vocalist Mary Elizabeth McGlynn is welcome. Unlike the previous games, her presence within the soundtrack body in no way disrupts the listening process and feels awkward. the track "O.R.T." is one of my favorite tracks.
As with the other soundtracks, the music here is intense, a bit on the scary ambient side, eerily beautiful, and so very original. Yamaoka has a talent for combining piano with synthesized effects and drum kicks that solidifies his uniqueness in the field of musical arrangement, and please believe that it works for him, very well. Granted, that's not what the entire album sounds like, but there are many tracks with that combo.
If your a SH fan, or just like great new sounding or "scary" music, grab a copy of this, it might even blow your mind.
Worth every penny.
The moment "O.R.T." began in the prologue of Origins, I said to myself, I have to buy this soundtrack.
Yamaoka has once again concocted a compilation of audio-euphoria that has yet to tire out, even after months of listening. The soundtrack is solid, ranging from new ambient material such as "ORT", back through the stylistic trip-hop elements of SH2 through SH4, and finally back to the mechanical clatterings of SH1.
If you liked the music from the previous games, buy this soundtrack now. You won't be disappointed. The artwork and mini-comic of Pyramid Head is killer, too.
Awesome treat for Silent Hill fans!
If you're a fan of the Silent Hill video game series, you've got to buy this! The artwork of Pyramid Head on the cover and in the mini-comic is absolutely awesome! And the music is Akira Yamaoka at his finest! I can hardly wait to hear the tracks he's laid down for Silent Hill: Homecoming! Domo arigatou, Yamaoka-san!
P.S. I recommend buying it from simplethings7. I have no personal stake in their company; I'm just a very happy customer.
